Creative Commons Finland, Aula ja HIIT tarjoavat maanantaina 23.10.2006 ainutlaatuisen tilaisuuden päästä kuuntelemaan Magnatune levy-yhtiön toimitusjohtajaa John Buckmania Korjaamolle. Tapahtuma alkaa kello 19 ja on englanninkielinen.

Is there a record company that is not evil?

Creative Commons Finland, Aula and HIIT are proud to organize an evening with CEO of Magnatune record company John Buckman on 23th of October, 7 pm at Korjaamo.

Magnatune is an online record label. Its catalogue can be listened for free on their website. Magnatune's catalogue of music is distributed with CC-license. Magnatune makes profit by selling physical CDs, high quality audio downloads and licenses to commercial use of the works. Buying a license from Magnatune is made easy. Licensees can use a website to calculate license fee and after the fee is paid the license is valid. Magnatune's music licensing contract is the same for all buyers, which removes legal fees as a built-in cost. While the model is a good example of loss leader strategy, Magnatune is also an excellent illustration of services sold to content producers. Unlike regular record companies that share percentage of their profits, Magnatune shares 50% of the licensing, CD-sales and merchandise revenue (not profit) with artists.
